Rescue Stories: Meet Bowie & Luna
Happy Rescue Stories Friday Friends!! We're back this month with with not just one new pup for you you to meet, but a dynamic duo! If you've been following along the past few months you know that during these ruff times, animal shelters and organizations have been struggling to maintain enough funding and supplies to support the hundreds of adoptable dogs/pets in their shelters. We are doing everything we can to help their efforts!
At Fit & Go Pets we play an important role (sometimes big, sometimes small) in helping dog rescue parents and their dogs as they go through their rescue journey and adapt to a new life. We see, first hand, entire lives changed for the better. We feel this role we serve is a big part of who we are as a company, and our duty, to help our community and help as many dogs and pawrents as possible.
We are so excited to introduce you to this month's Rescue Story... meet Bowie & Luna!
Bowie's Rescue Profile:
Rescue date: March 2, 2019
Breed: German shepherd / American bulldog / sharpee mix
Approximate age: 3.5 years old
Personality: Shy to humans, very lovable to dogs!
Loves to: Snuggle into beds too small for him, play in water, run zoomies in large backyards, and play with his sister! 💦
Luna's Rescue Profile:
Rescue date: August 28, 2021
Breed: Chihuahua / terrier mix
Approximate age: 3.5 years old
Personality: Energetic, loves humans & dogs!
Loves to: Chase birds, eat anything she can find (food and non food items), play with her brother, and sleep as close to humans as possible ♥️
Their mom Felicia tells us Bowie and Luna’s story:
Bowie was rescued when he was approximately 5 months old. He was initially very skittish around humans. He has always loved dogs. He was rescued from a backyard where he was found tied to a pole with his sibling. He has definitely come around to humans, but particularly loves all of his dog friends.
Luna was rescued at around 3 years of age from Miami based PAWS4you Rescue. She has always loved both dogs and humans, but she is scared of random moving objects. She was initially found in the streets. She exhibits many ‘street dog scavenging’ characteristics and will eat anything and everything (including her brother’s food, which he happily shares).
The greatest lesson:
Rescue dogs are the sweetest and sometimes have serious traumas, so they need extra love and care. But they are such loving, happy pups and love a loving home.
There’s so many amazing dogs that need rescuing. They are wonderful. The initial transition into your home can be tough - just know they’ve likely been through a lot and will need a little time to transition. Be patient. They will get there.
A piece of advice:
I wish we had known about the transition time and that it’s not always how it’s shown online or in movies. These dogs have been through a lot of trauma, and there is usually a transition period. They have to take in everything about their new home and new environment. They need their time. Eventually, they will become your best friends.
